For this assignment, I decided to have some fun with drag and drop. All the ones I see in the wild are ‘drag file here’ and then see a preview of it. A tad boring, if you ask me.

Here is my take on Drag N’ Drop.

PS – Being HTML5 and all, this only works with modern browsers.

About a week or so ago a group of ITP students visited the the headquarters of Hunch. They showed us and their API, and thought it would integrate nicely with the assignment assigned this week.

After some tinkering, I came up with What Would X Read?

About: resistorMISTER! is a web app which allows the user to quickly look up the value of a resistor. Just click on the color band, choose the appropriate color, and the web app calculates the resistor value for him/her. The web app also features local storage, so it will remember the last resistor’s value the user was looking up.

Overall, a good challenge to practice. Given the nature of the web app, the code is heavily focused on making the program easy and intuitive for the user to figure out. Code has been commented, for good practice, and also organized. This is not only best practice, but also allows for me (or someone else) to go in at a later time and modify code, if needed.

For this assignment, I decided to create the classic timer function. The timer will only work if using Google’s Chrome Browser, since its currently the only browser that supports Notifications.

I took a minimalist approach. Its a timer web app; it doesn’t need to look complex.

Thoughts on Assignment:

A few weeks back I was built a web app using JS (JavaScript), HTML, and CSS. I was happy with the outcome, but I wanted to give it the “web 2.0″ look and feel, which it lacked. This assignment allowed me to scrap the old web app and rebuild it from scratch. Over the next few weeks, I will be redeveloping (and redesigning) 9Bit Art into 9Bit.

How it uses HTML5

• Uses HTML5 to create a spin-wheel effect on the home page.
• User preses the spin button, causes the wheel to revolve. Once the arrow lands on a company’s logo on the wheel, the page’s data gets updated with a profile designated for the given company.
• On the Introduction page, it creates a canvas where mouseovers on certain parts of the canvas produces a different centered image.
